Audio/Video Mashup Pt.2

Hello everyone, and welcome back! This is the second part of my Audio/Video Mashup project in my Digital Design course! So without further ado, I will be posting the link below, and writing my description of my process!

Alright! So located above is my video, and I hope you enjoy it.

To get into my description, I had to immediately start off and say that I have had the most fun making this project. Grabbing clips from audio and video and being able to make a mashup out of it is something I never saw myself enjoying! I knew that I wanted to create a mixture of audio clips that would set a base tone/mood for me to build off of, and I am extremely happy with the way that it turned out. Before I began to piece and mashup my video to my audio, I wrote down notes about time clips of the audio, and then possible ideas of what to put into those sections.

Below are my descriptions of the clips themselves.

With the first clip, from 0:00-0:41, I wanted to include clips from cartoons, only because I felt that old cartoons would definitely fit that section.

Going into 0:41-1:11, I wanted to create a different section that would contrast from the cartoons, so I chose nature scenes. I had a huge amount of nature clips from a show, and knew that I wanted to incorporate them in at least one of the audio clips.

While making the third clip, from 1:11-1:36, since I had slowed down the audio, I decided to include the clips of a bomb dropping, and the initial impact of the bomb itself. I feel that this was a very strong match to my audio, only because of the sound itself and how it corresponds to the video.

With the clip from 1:36-1:53, I chose the snippets of people watching something (I believe it was either an astronaut launch, or a rocket launch) because I also wanted to incorporate it into my mashup. I looped it, but added few changes to the clips because I hadn't added a loop yet and wanted to see how it would correspond when I watched the video as a whole.

In the 1:55-2:24 clips, I added another explosion, but closer and more dramatic because I felt that it also matched the audio fairly well. I slowed down the video to try to match it as best as possible, but you can see that when merging into the next clip, it didn't quite fit, but I had fought with it for a while and it never matched completely, so I now know what to look out for when adding a shorter video clip to a longer audio clip.

In the 2:24-2:54 clip, I added wildlife. Along with the others, I wanted to include it. I had to add an extra loop to this to make it fit the audio because once again, it didn't fit as perfectly as I had hoped.

Last but not least, in the clip from 2:54-3:40, I included the old shows because it just felt right to end with them, since I started with cartoons.

Overall, I used multiple overlays, transitions, filters, and speeds to complete and show you all my finished project! I used all of these mainly because I have made a "movie" before on iMovie, so i felt comfortable using most of these editing techniques. I also used all of these techniques to become more comfortable with the ones I have either never used before, or barely knew. I feel that this was a successful project for the amount of time I used working on it, as well as how I made decisions on what to either keep, change, or delete. I feel my main issue was trying to fit shorter video clips to match my longer audio clips, as I either had to slow down the video or loop it to fit. I didn't exactly face much difficulty in this project.

I learned from this project a new liking for audio and video mashups, as it was awesome being able to create my own unique sound and movie for others to enjoy and to see. It was a great experience being able to learn about new things that I would have skipped over.

Well, as you can see, I had a lot to say about this project. Like I stated before, I really enjoyed everything about this, even the few difficulties I did face. I hope you all enjoy my "movie," and I thank you for taking time out of your day to see it!
