Quarantine Keep-Up

Hello there! So, as you know, we had our quarantine start on March 13th, 2020 (United States). With this, we faced multiple uncertainties when it came to dance classes, and our dance recital. We made sure to follow guidelines directed by our governor, but we also wanted to make sure that all of the dance students were able to enjoy this recital, and wouldn't have to go throughout all of the hard and persistent work, just for the recital to be cancelled.

We had to push back our recital from June 13th, to August 22nd, and although we were terrified of it being completely cancelled, we remained optimistic. This past year was also my final year of dancing at my dance studio, and I just wanted to finish this year on a positive note. My advanced class went through a lot of hardships, from online connection issues to the uncertainty of students staying until the end of the year. During quarantine, my advanced class came up with our own way to keep each other mentally and physically fit for our classes. We all had a lot to deal with, such as school schedules, jobs, and worrying about the health of our family.

Our dance teacher would record herself running through the warmup, and we could either go along with the video, or we could take notes and run through the routine on our own time. Whenever we would attend class, we would first ask each other how we were feeling, how classes were, and then we would continue with class. Towards the very end of class we would ask about how we felt during class, or if we had a change in emotion while going throughout class. After class was over, we would text in our group chat and just talk about anything we needed to get off of our chest.

Whether your dance classes continued in-person socially distanced, or were remote, or completely online, did you and your classmates set up your own routine for exercise? I can only understand the amount of sacrifice you had to make, especially if you had to have your recital cancelled, or if your studio had to completely close down throughout COVID-19.

I understand that this wasn't like my first post, but I do want to hear back from you! What sort of sacrifices did you have to make throughout your dance year? How did you manage dance, along with others, such as school, job, or family matters?

As always, thank you so much for taking time out of your day to come onto my blog! Stay safe and healthy, until next time!
